Server Engineer
Comprehensive server and network support in high-uptime environments. Perfect for IT professionals wanting responsibility, growth and to master cutting-edge technologies. Full contract, onsite & standby.
For ICT professionals who thrive on challenge and complexity, the Server Engineer role at iOCO offers hands-on engagement with robust server infrastructure. It’s a contract-based position with on-site requirements and paid standby duties. Candidates must be ready to commit to a rigorous onboarding process, from medicals to drug testing.
While salary information is not disclosed, the benefits are clear: you’ll gain exposure to multiple platforms, lead technology upgrades, and be part of a supportive, high-standards team. The work is stable, thanks to iOCO’s strong position in the market, and growth and training opportunities are encouraged.
Key Responsibilities
This role revolves around maintaining server uptime and security in a 24/7 production environment. From managing user accounts and monitoring system health to preventing vulnerabilities through regular software updates, responsibilities are varied and essential.
You’ll work with HPE, VMware, Nimble and other leading-edge hardware, monitor daily backups, and assist in disaster recovery scenarios. The job also includes end-user support and daily troubleshooting aligned with best practices.
You’ll develop both technical knowledge and soft skills—telephone etiquette, business writing, and consulting with teams. Project work includes technology refreshes and infrastructure upgrades as needed.
Pros
One of the strongest points of the iOCO Server Engineer job is the breadth of technology exposure—you’ll work with virtualisation, server hardware, monitoring tools, and cloud technologies under one roof.
Team dynamics are encouraging, with an environment focused on equal opportunity and innovative thinking. Consulting opportunities with leading ICT clients ensure your skills stay relevant.
Cons
The biggest challenge is the requirement for full standby duty and possible high-pressure situations, including disaster recovery and after-hours emergencies. The role also has specific physical demands and strict medical clearances which not all applications may easily meet.
The contract nature of the position may not suit those seeking permanent, long-term employment from day one. You’ll also need a reliable vehicle for commuting.
Verdict
If you want to be deeply involved in both server management and technology adoption, and you enjoy tackling technical and operational challenges, this is a well-rounded and rewarding contract role for growth-focused IT professionals.
The role offers a rich mix of responsibility, upskilling, and practical experience. If you embrace learning opportunities and hands-on engagement, this is a highly recommended opportunity.
